Thanks to a kind British couple we met in Cancun, we spent a few days in Edinburgh. I still don’t know how to properly pronounce this city name (Ed-in-burg or Ed-in-brah). Anyway, it’s an incredibly picturesque city with so much history. Our highlights included touring the more than 900 year old Edinburgh Castle, built on Castle Rock, which is the plug of an extinct volcano that is approximately 350 million years old. And being there to see the 1 pm daily cannon (since 1861) firing to tell sailors the time.
There are so many beautiful cathedrals and cobblestone streets. It pretty much never stops raining, but that didn’t bother us. We just put on our boots and kept going! We also hit the National Museum of Scotland, which was huge.
There is a lot of history of witches here, as well, that I need to look more into. But we ate at a restaurant called The Witchery, and it was the best meal we’ve had so far on this trip.
Nate was a trooper, hiking up two mountains in the rain (mostly) two days in a row to see Arthur’s Seat and the Highland Cows.
Oh! And we bought a handmade nutcracker playing the bagpipes. It was awesome to walk down the street and see/hear a fully-kilted bagpipe player or accordion player or guitarist or singer.
Finally, this city is built seven stories high. Our room was on the first floor, which is not ground level. From ground level you could still go down -4 floors π€·π»♀️
Definitely recommend for a few days if you’re anywhere near.
